New Super over Rule by International Cricket Council (ICC) in October 2019

Super Over! Super Over in Cricket:

The New Zealand cricket lovers will never forget the rule, when two teams score the equal number of runs in Super Over too.  That the winner between the two teams will be decided based on the highest number of fours scored in the match.

This is what happened in the final match of ICC Men 2019 cricket world cup between England and New Zealand. England emerged as 2091 world cup champions based on the number of fours they hit in that specific match.

Initially New Zealand batted first and scored 241/8 in 50 overs, in reply England scored 241 in 50 overs.
In Super Over: England batted first and scored 15/0 in 6 balls, in reply New Zealand scored 15/1 in 6 balls

Then the match was decided based on the number of fours scored by individual team in match, where England scored 26 fours and New Zealand scored 17 fours.

International cricket council faced a lot of criticism due to this rule and its unfair to decide the winner based on the number of scores they score in the match.

Therefore, in the month of October 2019, ICC came up with a new rule, that if a match gets tie, a Super over will be bowled. If match gets tie even in Super Over and another Super over will happen. This will continue until the winner in the match is decided.

Dockland or Marvel Stadium – Cricket Roof Covered Ground in Melbourne, Australia

Roof Covered Cricket Stadium in Melbourne Australia

Are you a hardcore cricket fan? I am a die hard fan of Cricket. Everyone had experienced the situation, where an international cricket match was delayed or abounded due to Rain.

It will be so disappointing when a cricket match ends or delayed due to rain. There are N number of situation where the international or domestic cricket match is abounded, delayed, or stopped due to rain.

Spectators in the stadium or viewers in front of televisions wait hours to match get resume. Some of the finals or semi-finals got stopped or delayed due to the rain and completed those matches on the reverse day.

One of the major example, recently ended 1st Semi-final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at Manchester between India vs New Zealand, Jul 9-10 2019. The original match was scheduled on July 9th 2019, but to due to rain, the match got completed on the reserve day July 10th 2019. Where New Zealand won the match by 18 Runs.

July 9th: 1st Innings played by New Zealand: 239/8
July 10th: 2nd Innings played by India: 221/10 (49.3 overs)

In those scenarios, only one thing comes into our mind, why can not a cricket match played Indoor or why can’t we built cricket indoor grounds or international cricket stadiums with rooftop. In practical, based on how the cricket match played it is not possible to have a match under roof top cricket grounds.

A solution for this found in Australia, where Cricket Australia board decided to have their matches is a Rooftop stadium known as “Docklands Stadium” (Roof covered stadium ) also known by the sponsors of the ground “Marvel Stadium” in Melbourne.

Docklands Stadium situated in Dockland area of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Dockland ground called with different names as Colonial Stadium, Telstra Stadium or Etihad Stadium. Highlights of the stadium is its retractable roof 38 meters (125 ft) and movable seats.

Apart from International cricket, other sports played here like Australia rules football, Football League, domestic T20 cricket matches and Rugby.

The First ODI international match played between Australia and South Africa on 16th August 2000 and till now 9 international matches played here.

1st Match – Australia vs South Africa on August 16 2000
2nd Match – Australia vs South Africa on August 18 2000
3rd Match – Australia vs South Africa on August 20 2000
4th Match – Australia vs Pakistan on June 12 2002
5th Match – Australia vs Pakistan on June 15 2002
6th Match – Australia vs New Zealand on December 5 2004
7th Match – Australia vs Sri Lanka on Jan 13 2006
8th Match – Australia vs South Africa on Jan 20 2006

9th Match – Australia vs South Africa on Feb 3rd 2006

3 charity matches were played between ICC World XI vs Australia on October 5, 7, 9 2006

Australia has very good record in this ground, out of 12 International and domestic matches played, they won in 8 matches, 1 match got tied, Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand won one match each.
